في مثل هذا اليوم من عام 1900 قدَّم ماكس بلانك بحثاً إلى الجمعية الفيزيائية في بيرل طبَّق فيه علاقة لودفيغ بولتزمان التي تربط بين الأنتروبية والاحتمال لاشتقاق طيف الإشعاع لجسم أسود مكون من هزازات صغرية (مكروسكوبية). لم تتوافق علاقة بلانك مع المعطيات التجريبية وحسب، بل إنها أطلقت ثورة ميكانيك الكم.
On this day in 1900 Max Planck presented a paper to the Physical Society of Berl in in which he applied Ludwig Boltzmann’s relationship between entropy and probability to derive the radiation spectrum of a black body made up of microscopic oscillators. Planck’s formula not only accounted for experimental data but it also set off the quantum mechanical revolution.
