Title:Structural and Optical Properties of Doped ZnS Nanoparticles

Abstracts:

Semiconductor nanoparticles have attracted much attention in recent years. Zinc-Sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles, in particular, are known to have excellent optical properties. We used a simple chemical method to prepare ZnS nanoparticles doped with different concentrations of several transition ****l ions. XRD studies show the phase singularity of ZnS nanocrystals having zinc-blende (cubic) structure. The broadening of the XRD peaks indicates that the average crystallite size of the particles is about 5 nm. The TEM micrographs show a spherical shape for ZnS particles whose average size is around 30 nm. These (mesoporous) particles are resulting from the aggregation of the initial crystallites. For Fe-doped ZnS, luminescence and optical absorption spectra indicated a slight blue-shift and a small increase in the band gap energy.
This work was carried out at the University of Manchester (UK) under the sponsorship of the British Council.
