Arectangular block od wood is measured to have the dimension 11.2 X3.4X4.10 cm
compute the volume of the block showing explicitly how doubtful figures are carried through the calculation(by underlining), and report the final answer with the correct number signifiant figures

plz I want to know who to solve and why!!

Hello
first of all
i think ur number is
1.2 X3.4X4.10 cm
not 11.2 u will understant later

What makes a number significant?
1. All non-zeroes are signficant.
2. All zeroes between non-zeroes are significant.
3. All zeroes to the left of non-zeroes are not significant.
4. All zeroes to the right of non-zeroes and to the right of the decimal place are signifcant

now 1.2 has 2 signifiant figures
3.4 has 2 signifiant figures
4.10 has 3 signifiant figures

note to this rule carefully

When quantities are multiplied or divided, the number of significant figures in the answer is equal to the number of significant figures in the quantity with the lowest number of significant figures.

let’s see where is the lowest number of significant figures

the lowest number of significant figures is 2 Right !!

so
1.2 X3.4 X 4.10 =16.728
so our answer (16.728) should be expressed in 2 sig figs

so the answer is = 16

when we calculate in ur number
we will get

11.2 X3.4X4.10= 156. 128

in this case we can’t find the lowest number of significant figures
because 156 is only has 3 significant figures

I don’t know if we can write it in this Form

0.15 X 10^2

I thing i saw it in somewhere

ok
